Have you ever fantasized about being a superhero? Someone who’s super fast. Someone who can leap tall buildings. Maybe you’d like to fly, teleport, or create detailed shadow puppets with your hands.

For Johnny Wilson, that curiosity didn’t stop at daydreaming—it turned into a game.

Johnny is a longtime member of the Peak Improv Theater community and a performer in Tune Titans, an improvised musical ensemble known for collaboration, trust, and quick thinking. Those same improv values are at the heart of Teamup, the superhero tabletop role-playing game he created—and which officially launches at Peak Improv Theater on Saturday, January 31, 2026.

If you’re not familiar with TTRPGs (tabletop role-playing games), think old-school, analog storytelling: friends gathered around a table, building a shared world together. Like Dungeons & Dragons, but with superheroes—and with an emphasis on cooperation over competition.

“What tabletop RPGs do for me is elevate that childlike make-believe we’re taught to grow out of. Teamup was built so the mechanics support creativity instead of shutting it down—so even when the ‘game’ starts, you’re still inventing together,” says Johnny.

That mindset will feel familiar to anyone who’s stepped onto an improv stage. In improv, transformation happens externally: an idea becomes a scene, a character becomes a story, a group becomes something more than the sum of its parts. Teamup works the same way. Players don’t “win” by overpowering one another—they succeed by listening, adapting, and building momentum together.

This is why Johnny’s journey fits so naturally into Peak Improv Theater’s Community Spotlight lens. Improv isn’t just a performance skill—it’s a creative philosophy. You practice it in classes, you experience it in shows, and sometimes, like Johnny, you carry it into an entirely new medium.

The Teamup launch event is more than a game night. It’s a live, community-driven experience featuring hilarious improvisers, collaborative storytelling, and a special one-shot episode recorded for The Teamup Playshow Podcast. After the capes come off, audiences are invited to stick around for snacks, drinks, and connection—because community doesn’t end when the scene does.

If you’ve ever been curious about improv, storytelling, or collaborative play, this event is an invitation—not just to watch creativity, but to participate in it.

Because sometimes transformation doesn’t happen onstage—it happens around a table.
